SLS Elections
The Students’ Law Society (SLS) holds elections twice each academic year to ensure student representation across Council, Faculty Council, and key committees.
All registered Windsor Law students are members of the SLS and are eligible to vote in applicable elections.
Elections are conducted online in accordance with the SLS Constitution and By-Law VI.
Fall Elections
Held near the beginning of the academic year (no later than the first Friday of October), Fall Elections focus primarily on first-year and any vacant positions.
Positions typically filled include:
1L SLS Council Representative
1L Faculty Council Representatives
Dual JD Representative(s) (where applicable)
1L Discipline Committee Representative
Any vacant Council, Faculty Council, or Discipline Committee positions
Spring Elections
Held near the end of the academic year (no later than the second last Friday of March), Spring Elections determine the incoming Executive Team and upper-year representatives.
Positions typically filled include:
President
Vice President (Academic)
Vice President (Finance)
Vice President (Events)
Vice President (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion)
Upper-year SLS Council Representatives
Upper-year Faculty Council Representatives
Discipline Committee Representatives
Part-Time JD Representative
How Elections Work
Elections are overseen by the SLS Chair, who acts as Chief Electoral Officer.
Nominations are open for a minimum period, and candidates must gather the required number of student nominators.
Campaign periods are regulated to ensure fairness (including spending caps and campaign rules).
Voting is conducted electronically and securely.
If a position becomes vacant mid-year, a snap election or appointment process may occur in accordance with the Constitution.
