Single JD Program

The Single JD program is Windsor Law’s core three-year law degree, providing a strong foundation in legal theory, legal practice, and professional skills.

Windsor Law also offers a range of co-curricular and experiential opportunities, including clinics, mooting programs, and access to the Legal Assistance of Windsor clinic, which embeds real client work into students’ learning experiences.

First-Year Experience

Your first week of law school begins one to two weeks earlier than upper years. This early start is designed to help you get comfortable with the building, meet classmates, and ease into law school before classes fully begin. Dates are available on the Windsor Law website under Academic Dates.

In addition to academic orientation, students can participate in Social Orientation, which runs during the first few weeks of the semester. Participation is optional and flexible — attend what feels right for you. Events range from low-key socials to larger gatherings like Trivia Night and the Boat Cruise.

Academics & Administration

  • Class Scheduling: First-year JD students do not register for classes, your schedule is created by the Faculty and shared in August before term begins.

  • Course Structure: The JD curriculum includes a compulsory first year followed by a wide array of elective and specialized courses in upper years, allowing you to tailor your experience around your interests and career goals.

  • Textbooks & Materials: Textbooks for your courses can be located through UWinsite under Manage Classes.

  • Student Cards & Transit: Your UWin Card (student ID) and bus pass are typically available within the first weeks of term. Keep an eye on your orientation communications for pick-up details.

Support & Community

  • Peer Mentorship Program: We strongly encourage you to participate in the Peer Mentorship Program, where incoming 1Ls are paired with upper-year mentors who can help you navigate academics, student life, and everything in between.

  • Social Orientation: Early in the fall, Social Orientation helps you build your network and make connections — whether you want to dive into dozens of events or just dip your toes in.

  • Well-Being & Resources: Windsor Law’s supportive community includes faculty, student services, clubs, and wellness resources that are here to help when you need them.

  • All first-year students participate in mooting as part of Legal Writing & Research (no need to worry, you’ll be supported every step of the way)

Indigenous Legal Studies & Support

Windsor Law emphasizes Indigenous legal traditions and access to justice throughout its programming. Resources for Indigenous students, including admissions supports, scholarships, an Elder in Residence, and student societies, enrich the community and educational experience for all students

Indigenous applicants who are given an offer to attend are required to attend the Indigenous Pre-Law Summer Orientation Program. This program was created to increase retention of Indigenous students in the field of law. The program is delivered on campus the summer before the first-year student orientation and is hosted by faculty and staff at Windsor Law as well as visiting Law professors.
